The Tale of a Fierce Dragon

Once upon a time there was a young woman who really wanted to post on her blog. Sadly, there was an evil report card dragon that must be slain before she was free to do so, and her Prince Charming was trapped in another kingdom. She was forced to slay this dragon alone. Her loved ones always waited with eager anticipation to read each new blog entry, and the young woman was sorely grieved to have to cause them to wait so long. Alas, she had already delayed slaying the report card dragon by posting on her blog, and to do so again could prove deadly! So, the young woman posted a blog entry assuring her loved ones that she would continue her post as soon as the report card dragon was "good and dead!"

Lift Me Up--New!

Praises first:
1) Joshua is back and he got to keep his eye!
2) G just got one of my American friends here out of a really scary situation that could have turned really bad, but now she is safe and living somewhere else
3) The families here are a huge blessing; the whole community here is like one big family; I have some awesome friends from many cultures and countries!
4) I have adjusted to the culture and am thriving here!
5) I have running water again! Hot and cold!
6) For the first time in 2 ½ months I am no longer feeling sick to my stomach
7) G’s continued protection over myself and the M families here
8) progress and conversations with local friends
9) so far I have been financially provided for!
Requests:
1) That my believing local friends would grow in JC, and s-lv-tion for my unbelieving local friends.
2) Tien Shan desperately needs a Principal, a 2nd grade teacher, and a 5th grade teacher for the Fall...yarp that G will provide them quickly so that they can continue to give these children a quality education.
3) That progress would continue to be made on the building of the new school and that it would be ready to move into by December.
4) My health. I have had chronic fatigue for about 2 months now and no matter how much I sleep (I am sleeping at least 8 hours every night and often more, and napping every afternoon), I am always exhausted. It is very difficult to teach like this and it is very hard to get all of the many things done that I need to do.
5) My breathing/eyes. Due to the pollution here and the fact that this is a very dirty and windy city, now that the snow has melted I have a chronic cough; itchy, dry, and sore eyes; and sometimes difficulty breathing easily.
6) That G will continue to provide the finances that I will continue to need through the end of August
7) Wisdom and grace in teaching.
8) Doing good-byes well as everyone is starting to part and go their separate ways this month
9) Grace, peace, and strength for me as I try and finish my life here well, and prepare myself for returning to the States
10) that G provides me with a teaching job near Germantown, WI, this Fall.

Little Differences

Like most of the world, Kazakhstan uses the metric system. Why does America always have to be different? The metric system makes so much more sense!
"high speed" here is not the same as high speed in the U.S., but it's not quite as bad as U.S. dial-up...dial-up here is positively painful.
Many American ingredients that I am used to cooking with are not available here, although a couple have been imported
Directions are given as "uphill" or "downhill" instead of "north," "south," "east," and "west"
a magazine is not something you read, it's a small (often tiny) local store that has an assortment of produce, food, drinks, candy, medicine, etc.
catching a taxi means hitchiking...any car is a taxi...stand on the side of the road with your arm out, when a car pulls up tell the driver where you want to go and how much you'll pay. You may have to bargain until you agree on a rate, then get in the car and off you go!
the heat is turned on October 15, whether or not it's cold and there are no individual apartment thermostats
Buildings are heated using hot water running through pipes that run around each room, but are not inside the walls.
The heating tanks to heat the water that is piped into the buildings for both washing and heating may be blocks and blocks away from the building...meaning it takes a ridiculously long time for the hot water to finally reach your shower!
cell phones are all prepaid plans
